Sithonia is the most beautiful "leg" of Halkidiki, but choosing your base can be tough. Nikiti and Vourvourou are only 20 minutes apart, yet they offer completely different vibes. As locals, we’ve broken down the pros and cons to help you decide.

1. The Vibe

• Nikiti: A bustling, traditional-meets-modern town. It has a life of its own outside of tourism. You get a long, lively promenade, a historic "Old Village" on the hill, and a "main street" feel with large supermarkets and shops.

• Vourvourou: A quiet, stretched-out settlement. There is no real "center" or promenade here. It feels more like a collection of villas and hotels tucked into the pine trees. It is much more focused on nature and total relaxation.

2. The Beaches

• Nikiti: The city beach is long, sandy, and very shallow—perfect for small children. It’s "organized," meaning plenty of sunbeds and service.

• Vourvourou: The famous Karidi Beach is located here (stunning white sand and rocks), but the main coast is narrower. The real magic of Vourvourou isn't on the mainland—it's the Diaporos Islands just offshore.

3. Activities & Nightlife

• Nikiti: Wins for nightlife. The promenade is packed with cocktail bars and restaurants that stay busy until late. It's great for evening strolls and people-watching.

• Vourvourou: The main activity here is renting a boat. You don't need a license, and it’s the best way to explore the "Blue Lagoon." After sunset, Vourvourou is very quiet; you'll mostly be dining at your hotel or a few select tavernas.

4. Practicality

• Nikiti: Better for families who want everything within walking distance—pharmacies, big supermarkets (Masoutis, Lidl), and varied dining.

• Vourvourou: Best for those who have a car and want to "hide away." It feels more exclusive but requires a drive for anything more than basic groceries.
