Most visitors to Nikiti spend their entire holiday on the main town beach. While the main beach is beautiful, the real magic of Sithonia lies just a few kilometers down the road.
If you’re looking for those "postcard" turquoise waters without the crowds, grab your keys and a towel. Here are 5 incredible beaches near Nikiti that feel like a world away.
1. Koviou Beach: The "Blue Lagoon" Vibe
Just a 5-minute drive south of Nikiti, Koviou is famous for its incredible water color. It’s a deep, shimmering turquoise that looks like it has a filter on it.
• Why you’ll love it: It’s sheltered from the wind, so the water is almost always as flat as a pancake—perfect for paddleboarding or floating.
• Insider Tip: Walk to the far left side (past the rocks) to find a tiny hidden cove that usually stays empty even in July.
2. Kalogria Beach: The Best Sunset in Halkidiki
A little further south from Koviou, you’ll find Kalogria. This beach is famous for its fine, powdery sand and a small rocky island you can easily swim to.
• Why you’ll love it: It’s one of the best spots to watch the sun sink directly into the sea.
• Insider Tip: There are several beach bars here, but if you prefer peace, the northern end (to your right as you face the sea) is unorganized and much quieter.
3. Agios Ioannis: The Best of Both Worlds
Agios Ioannis is a massive, wide stretch of sand with some of the clearest water in the region. Recently, a luxury resort was built here, but a large portion of the beach remains free and open to the public.
• Why you’ll love it: There is tons of space. You never feel "packed in" like sardines here.
• Insider Tip: Bring your snorkeling gear. The rocky outcrops at both ends of the bay are teeming with small fish.
4. Spathies: The Secret Twin Coves
Spathies is actually two beaches: a tiny, circular "lagoon" and a larger sandy beach next to it.
• Why you’ll love it: The smaller cove is surrounded by pine trees that grow almost into the water, providing natural shade—a rare find in Greece!
• Insider Tip: This is a local favorite. Because it’s so small, it fills up fast. Arrive before 10:00 AM to claim your spot under a tree.
5. Lagonisi Beach: The "Caribbean" of the North
Technically on the other side of the peninsula (near Ormos Panagias), but still only 10–12 minutes from Nikiti. Lagonisi features a narrow strip of sand that leads out to a small peninsula.
• Why you’ll love it: The water is incredibly shallow and stays light blue for hundreds of meters. It feels more like the Caribbean than the Mediterranean.
• Insider Tip: This beach is now mostly managed by a beach bar with an entry fee. If you want a similar vibe for free, try Trani Ammouda just a two-minute drive further up.
Which one should you choose?
• For Families: Koviou or Kalogria (shallow and calm).
• For Couples: Spathies (romantic and cozy).
• For Peace & Quiet: The far ends of Agios Ioannis.
Planning your trip? Don't forget that the best way to see these gems is to have your own transport. Most are just a short drive from the center of Nikiti!
